Online Documentation

The documentation will be up soon. In the meantime, here are some brief instructions.

Installation

Just upload all the files from the .zip into a directory on your server, i.e. overlord, and then open a web browser and point it to that folder on your website (i.e. http://example.com/overlord/). A link will be displayed to start the installation process, which is very simple.

  1. Enter your FTP login information to set permissions.
  2. Enter site name, paths, and mysql server information to create the database tables.
  3. Enter the username, email, and password you wish to use for your account.
  4. Delete the install.php file for security reasons.
  5. Log in to your very own Overlord site!

Upgrading from 1.0.2 or lower

Upgrading follows the same steps as installation with only a few differences.

  1. Be sure to log out of your current Overlord site.
  2. Backup your overlord directory and database, just in case.
  3. Delete the previous overlord folder, even config.php.
  4. Upload the new Overlord files to your server.
  5. Open the site in your browser and click the link to begin installation.
  6. Enter your FTP login information to set permissions.
  7. Enter site name, paths, and mysql server information. You will revieve a notice that a previous installation was found and given options for what to do with the existing data, upgrade, delete, or backup.
*IMPORTANT* Be sure to use the exact same database information that you used when you installed Overlord the first time. Otherwise it will install new database tables instead of upgrading the existing ones.
  8. Log in to your newly upgraded Overlord site.

Support

You can get support for Overlord by sending an email to support@phpoverlord.com, posting a thread on the support forums, or, new in version 2.0, by clicking the Overlord logo while logged into your Overlord site and completing the feedback form.

RSS Feeds

Your Overlord portal automatically maintains an RSS Feed for the entire site, each project, and each individual user. Each of these feeds is located in the /feeds directory inside the root Overlord directory. Access to this directory is not restricted by default, only a blank index.html file prevents seeing the directory listing.

If you wish to restrict access to your Overlord feeds, it is best done through .htaccess, or through your web server control panel. Security is not really necessary, however, as you must have a valid user account to change any data on the site, other users will see only the small amount of information that is shown in the feed.
